Assignment Overview
“As we have discussed from the beginning of this class, photography is all about light. Understanding the different types of lighting in photography will help you look for or create the type of light that works best for your shot. Hard light is high contrast lighting with a very quick transition for light to dark and creates a dramatic or suspenseful feeling.”
For this assignment, we were tasked with capturing drama and expression through different types of lighting in a series of images. This particular image, I decided to showcase emotions by contrasting the highlights that were across my self-portrait with the overpowering weight of the shadows that lurked behind me. This was a very interesting project to do, and having to figure out how to create very dynamic lighting with what little means I had was extremely fun to me.
