Assignment Overview
“No one will ever be able to truly define art or answer the question as to what art is.
It is too ambiguous and means many different things to many different people. However, for this project, you are charged with designing a single poster which expresses your personal answer to the question, “What is art?”
For this assignment, getting to have full creative freedom was a really big thing to me, as it really got me to thinking about not only what art was to me but also how I valued artwork in general. With my poster, I wanted to go with a concept that had a simple mission, but also was a commentary on other social issues that I found to be connected to how society currently takes in artwork. This specifically ties into how I personally view art; Art is simple to the eye, but if you look closer and truly try to understand art instead of just consuming it, you get to see the inner beauty all arts have in them. We are human after all, and seeing the inner beauty in things is something that is an ingrained part of our nature as people.
Overall, getting to see how the poster was perceived and seeing how much of a discussion was created surrounding it without having to truly explain the purpose of the poster let me know that while there are several things I could change about the poster, the core mission I had was pretty solid to my standards.
